Compass Residential Program

Virtual Tour

If you are considering Compass or planning to come here a little tour can be a big help. A few pictures can be worth
a lot of words in getting some sense of what Compass looks like and what you can expect.
If you want more information about our program or how to apply see the contact information on the website.

Southport

The Compass Residential Youth Program is located at Southport, Manitoba (approximately one hour west of Winnipeg and about 4 kilometres south of Portage la Prairie). Southport was a Canadian Air Force Base that has become a thriving community with a recreation centre, convenience store, restaurant, satellite campuses for Red River Community College and the University of Manitoba, a new flight training centre and of course Compass.

Compass

You enter Southport on Centennaire Drive and Compass is the first building on the left just across the street from the recreation centre

Take a left on Harvard Ave and a right onto Nomad St., both seen in the picture above, and you’re there.

Parking is available right at our front door.

Our Yard

We really have a beautiful location with lots of open spaces, fresh air and Manitoba’s great natural beauty.

Reception

Through the front door is our reception area.  When you don’t know the people, place or program it can be very hard just to get through
the door for the first time.  Our staff understand and we try to help everyone feel welcome.

Dining Area

Good food and conversation make for very enjoyable meal times.  Outside of meal times this area is used for various arts, crafts, and activities.

Common Area

A good place to watch some TV, play games, read, relax and just hang out.  There are also regular game and movie nights.

Music Corner

For those who like making music or would like to learn we have a few instruments.  Clients can also bring their own instruments
which they can keep in their rooms.  We also encourage people to bring and share other arts and crafts, abilities and interests.

Games Room

The Games Room is open daily for more free time recreation options including shuffle board, fosse ball, air hockey and pool.

Family Room

This is a place for families to meet when they come for admission, a visit, or one of our regular Family Days.  A quiet place to visit or just relax.

Class Room

Compass has a full time Learning Coordinator and clients spend time in the classroom Monday through Friday.  We work with home schools
so that students can continue current courses for credit.   Those who have not been in school programs are assessed here and
an individualized upgrading plan is developed.  Distance Education courses for credits are also available at no cost.

Group Rooms

Compass is a group-based program and every weekday there are group meetings on a variety of issues from recreation and leisure to
health and wellness, emotion management and spirituality, and of course alcohol and other drugs. Groups are intended to be
safe places to explore problems and solutions together.

 Bedroom

At Compass we have single bedrooms so everyone has their own space, for their own things, with their own key.

The Recreation Centre

The Southport Recreation Centre is just across the street from Compass.  It houses a gymnasium, pool and weight room.
Clients have regular access to this great facility and should bring suitable swim and gym wear including extra running shoes.
There are some limits on use based on age, level of supervision, programming and availability.

Gymnasium

The Recreation Center has a full gym with options for basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, badminton, walking, etc.

Weight Room

A well-equipped weight room in the recreation centre has free weights, various weight machines, tread mills and stair climbers.

Aquaplex

A full sized pool with hot tub and small water slide completes the recreation centre and gives still more opportunity for fun and fitness.
