Prevention & Education ServicesAFM provides a full range of prevention and education services on alcohol , other drugs and gambling (AODG)through out the province. Prevention is identified as those services designed and delivered to reduce the demand for, involvement with, and the harms associated with AODG. In its work, AFM is involved with various community-based initiatives, working groups and partners to address identified needs. Its prevention services are targeted across a broad range of the population, from youth to older adults. AFM strives to meet the needs of the community in a wide range of settings, such as community agencies/organizations, workplaces and schools, providing prevention and education on a number of different levels. Prevention services support AFM's vision of "Manitobans living free from the harm of alcohol, other drugs and gambling." Professionals and organizations can call AFM staff to discuss their needs or questions about alcohol, other drugs and gambling. For Community Agencies/Organizations Community Collaboration AFM strives to collaborate and build long-lasting partnerships with community agencies/organizations to foster a community mobilization approach. It is through such collaborations and partnerships that a strong sense of community responsibility is achieved, as important issues can be addressed through dialogue and decision-making processes. AFM offers a variety of workshops on alcohol, other drugs and/or gambling that meet the needs of various agencies and organizations. AFM staff collaborate with the organization to plan a workshop that will further educate and/or inform the target staff and clientele. AFM provides all Manitobans with quality courses that are current in the alcohol, other drug and/or gambling areas of addictions. Policy Development Taking into account the school's current policies and procedures, AFM's policy development consultation process will help guide the school through the steps necessary to develop a successful alcohol and other drugs (AODG)policy or enhance an existing one. AFM endorses a student assistance model approach that works effectively to prevent students AODG issues and to recognize and address them when they do occur. Workshops/Presentations AFM staff will develop and deliver workshops on alcohol, other drugs and/or gambling that are tailored to meet the needs of students. AFM is also pleased to offer workshops for school staff involved in the process of developing a Student Assistance Program. Awareness Sessions AFM offers AODG information sessions for teachers, counsellors, and/or support staff and parents. These sessions provide participants with valuable up-to-date information to help them be effective in their prevention and intervention with students. |
